Finding yourself overwhelmed by the daily worries and stress of today’s fast-paced modern world is easy. Our ‘to-do lists’ seem never-ending and burden us with seemingly unachievable tasks that our mobile devices serve to continuously feed. In a day where we can be reached around the clock it can at times feel as though there is nowhere to hide.
Just trying to keep on top of everything can be exhausting and it can feel as though there are just not enough hours in the day! We are rarely gifted opportunity to take a deep breath and relax before one day ends and another, much the same, begins.
Our bodies and minds, worn down by the daily urban grind, are deprived of enough time to rest and recover. The constant rush makes it easy to pick up bad eating habits and more difficult to make time for exercise.
A health retreat can be a perfect solution to recuperate, revitalise and learn how to establish or re-establish good habits to boost your overall health and wellness.
Offered at some most beautiful locations on the planet, a temporary retreat can yield permanent benefits that you will take home.
I talk from experience; until a couple of years ago I was at the top of 10 year career in sales and marketing. Although successful I was highly stressed and after experiencing a retreat on the advice of a colleague I began studying part time to become professionally qualified as a health and wellness coach. I took the leap and quit my career to start my own health and wellness business offering health retreats (link) in Bali, Indonesia and Australia.
HERE ARE MY 7 REASONS WHY A RETREAT WILL BENEFIT YOUR LIFE:
1. Expert Coaching
We are all different and so a retreat should offer a tailored and personalised approach to health, fitness and lifestyle coaching to help you reach your goals and ensure they are sustainable.
Choose a retreat with expert coaches and you will benefit from guidance to achieve results in all areas of your life:
-
Health
-
Nutrition
-
Career
-
Movement
-
Relaxation
-
Relationships
-
Stress Relief
-
Weight Management
-
Balanced Lifestyle
2. Educational
No matter what type of retreat you choose most offer classes, lectures, and seminars that will help you understand why you’ve developed bad habits, gained weight or just feel the way you do and give you the knowledge and tools that you will take away to live a healthier more balanced life.
3. Structured Environment
You are on a retreat to relax after all so most should be flexible with the daily routine where appropriate; detoxes, weight loss and other nutritional retreats may be stricter. All retreats however should be well scheduled with regular exercise, meals, support and guidance.
4. Physical Experience
Again although most retreats differ in the structure and daily routine most will provide classes and groups where you will learn new activities or perhaps develop new skills in an activity you already enjoy.
5. Emotional Experience
Finding true solitude away from the reality of the everyday hustle and bustle can lead to an almost sacred path of self-discovery and may offer many insights into your current situation and even offer a completely new perspective on life. All retreats should support your development with expert coaches on hand, most will offer group therapy sessions or similar.
6. Social Experience
The combination of practicing new skills with new teachers or following a new treatment programme with other participants will expose you to new experiences. The social environment within any retreat will almost certainly leave you open to a new mind-set, no matter how significantly or insignificantly it may seem, that you will take home with you.
7. Follow up Support
All good retreats will offer ongoing support following a retreat and most will offer a guide in some format to take home. When the retreat is over and it’s time to return home the new skills and mind-sets you have developed should be continued and further developed to ensure you continue to benefit from the changes you’ve made and the goals you’ve achieved during your stay.
