With the common eating habits and lifestyle in America, most people start seriously aging around 55. With this comes injury and illness. Most people get a little overweight and more sedentary. While not all health problems can be avoided, by losing weight and taking control of your health you can eliminate a large percentage of possible health issues.

Whether you are currently healthy or not, whether you are 45 or 65, you can improve your health. There are things you can do at any age to help the aging process happen a little smoother and without as many health problems.

Working exercise into your life to achieve weight loss and improve health is something most people can agree on. However, one of the most important parts of this is to do it for the rest of your life. Going on a health kick followed by a state of apathy and gluttony is not going to create a healthy you.

 You need to dedicate yourself to exercise for the rest of your life. Exercise can soften the effects of aging, but you must continue to exercise as your body ages. Start exercising every day, and don’t stop.

Weight training is an important part of exercising. While walking, running and aerobics are great for your heart and cardiovascular health, you need to use weights 3 days a week. You don’t have to be a body builder to be successful at lifting weights. And, you don’t have to be lifting huge amounts of weight.

However, you do need to be lifting some weight. Weight training builds muscles to keep your body moving. As we age, our bodies become weaker. Lifting weights can slow this process. It can also create a stronger body that can prevent injury or quicken injury recovery.

Watch What You Eat

We all know doughnuts for breakfast, fast food for lunch and pizza for dinner is not the road to weight loss. Not only will a diet full of garbage make you increasingly heavier, it starves your body of the nutrients it needs. As you age, you must be mindful of eating right to get the nutrients yours body needs.

A healthy diet of protein, fruits, vegetables, and complex carbohydrates will provide your body with nutrients necessary for healthy function. As you age you must be mindful of getting enough calcium. Aging can cause loss of bone density. Calcium supports healthy bones. Make sure you are eating food that is good for your body.

Drink More Water

Water is vital for any weight loss program. If you need to lose weight, be sure to stay fully hydrated with water. Stop drinking empty calorie soda and juice. Start carrying a water bottle to remind yourself to drink water.

Water will flush out the toxins in your body. When you are hydrated your brain and body work better. Because it is both filling and cleansing, adding water to your diet can increase weight loss. It can also improve overall health.

Supplements

If you have health problems you may be taking medications daily. It may seem annoying to add more pills to your daily routine, but supplements can help you feel better and be a great preventative measure for other illnesses. Taking a multivitamin is a great way to keep your body stocked with necessary nutrients.

Give your best effort to eat well and get as many nutrients as you can from food. But, even after this you may be low on specific vitamins. Adding a multivitamin can provide nutrients needed to keep your body functioning and healthy.
