The Biggest Loser’s Weight Loss Yoga might be a perfect starting place for those new to yoga. An Amazon reviewer wrote, “Bob instructs as if you’ve never had a yoga class in your life.”

Weight Loss Yoga offers workouts on three different levels, so as your abilities grow, you don’t need to run out and buy a new program. The DVD offers an interactive menu so you can choose which kind of workout you want to do.

How Does Weight Loss Yoga Work?

We’ve known for quite some time that yoga helps with weight loss. It increases flexibility, detoxifies your body, tones your muscles, burns calories, and improves self-image.

Yoga alone will help you lose weight. Throw in Bob Harper for motivation, and you’ve got a win-win package.

Also, this particular yoga video is really geared towards weight loss and the folks at Biggest Loser saw fit (pun intended) to deviate from traditional yoga in order to increase the weight loss potential. One Amazon reviewer wrote:

“Not really “yoga” yoga, but a combo of cardio-pilates-power yoga … awesome. I was sweating in the first five minutes”

Does The Biggest Loser Weight Loss Yoga DVD Work?

It does work. M. Perez, who used the Weight Loss Yoga DVD, wrote,

“Bob is so motivating … the moves are simple and easy to follow, but you can feel your heart racing and your muscles working with every move and stretch.”

Bob takes the intimidation out of yoga, and convinces you that you can do it.

Morgan Haines from San Diego, who never really liked yoga because it caused him pain and aggravation, finds this yoga workout very nice. He explains,

“This one is totally different and I am loving it! For those who think yoga is easy and you don’t get good exercise from it, they should definitely try this.”

Also, male reviewers found comfort in having a man lead the workout (yoga instructors are so often female), and women found great joy in watching handsome Bob Harper do the Warrior Pose.

Even yoga instructors have endorsed this program! Cheryl L. Malone, a yoga teacher from California, wrote:

“This is the way I was trained back in the 1960’s – holding the poses to build strength and stamina… you learn yoga better when you hold the poses. If you learn from a moving flow, you tend not to watch your form as well. If you are thinking of trying yoga, this would be a good place to start.”

How Much Weight Will I Lose?

Edward Haith of California testifies:

“I started Biggest Loser Boot Camp and the Biggest Loser Weight Loss Yoga. I alternated days with Fridays off. Instead of spending 2 weeks on each level, I spent 4 weeks on each level. I also designed my eating plan 100% from the Biggest Loser Family Cookbook. After 12 weeks, I went from 261 lbs to 226 lbs. It works, that’s all I have to say.”

Side Effects

While traditional yoga is not supposed to cause soreness and lameness, people report that this workout will leave you sore the next day (and maybe even the day after that).

  • Yoga increases lubrication of your joints, ligaments, and tendons.
  • Yoga massages the organs in your body.
  • Yoga increases your physical self-awareness and gets you more in touch with your own body.
  • Yoga ensures the optimum blood supply to various parts of your body, which helps to flush out toxins.
  • Yoga tones your muscles and helps you to look better, and thinner.
  • Yoga will help you improve your posture, which in turn, will help you improve your overall health.
  • Yoga improves self-image.
  • Yoga relieves stress.
  • Yoga improves your mood.
  • Yoga lowers blood pressure and slows your heart rate.
  • Doing this routine regularly will give you extra energy.

Some users feel that:

  • This yoga workout doesn’t offer a lot of variety.
  • Bob does not offer much of the breathing and alignment explanation that usually goes with beginning yoga.

Problems and Complaints

Some yoga lovers complain that this video varies from the traditional yoga studio ambiance. Missing are the lighted candles and soft Indian music.

Others complained that this yoga video is not “yoga enough,” in that it is not true yoga. There is just too much variation for the yoga purists out there. D. M. Hunt from Dallas likes the workout but says:

“The video seems more focused on the weight workout rather than the yoga workout.”

Kristen from Pittsburg, PA, struggled with the positions despite being in a good shape. She warns:

“If you're hardcore and can hold positions for long periods of time, then perhaps this video is for you.”

If you are trying to lose weight, and looking to spice up your routine, then this video might be a good addition to your tool kit, especially if you are a fan of The Biggest Loser or Bob Harper. However, if you are looking for a beginner, traditional yoga video, this is probably not the one for you. This video incorporates facets of yoga, but it also incorporates a lot of other things, and therefore, is not truly “yoga” yoga.
