Nautilus T516 Treadmill Review

John Warbuck's picture

The main reason I’ve never liked treadmills is the high impact toll that they take on my feet, legs and ankles. Nautilus must have been reading my mind when they designed the T516, because this treadmill is sturdy and provides enough of a cushion to your step to absorb all of the impact that normally leaves your knees feeling like they’ve been rattled.

How Does the Nautilus T516 Work?

The Nautilus T516 boasts its Softrak suspension, which is responsible for its low impact experience, as well as four different heart rate monitoring systems that include a chest belt. An easy to use LCD monitor allows you to track all of your important metrics and choose from 26 different preset workout programs. If you choose to go with your own program, the T516 allows a maximum speed of 15 MPH.

What Others Think- Does the Nautilus T516 Really Deliver?

When it comes to treadmills, a low impact design goes a long way, and the Softrak suspension is receiving some great accolades from Amazon reviewers such as S. Wong, whose treadmill experience improved when he switched to the T516. “I was having some tendonitis in my calves and Achilles on our NordicTrak that I contributed to old age (46yrs)” he states in his review; later going on to say that those pains went away when he began using the T516.

Will it Help Me Tone up and Manage My Weight?

Just as with any exercise equipment, you are only going to get out of it what you put in, but the general consensus on Amazon is that this treadmill will do its job and that it offers plenty of functionality. According to Lizane Boni, “It has plenty of programs from which to choose,” and she likes the ability to control the air flow through the treadmill’s fan.

Maximum Weight and Warranty

The T516 can accommodate users that are up to 350 pounds. It is accompanied with a warranty that covers the motor and frame for 15 years and the electronics/parts for 2 years.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • The low impact provides an extreme advantage and is the most highly rated feature of the treadmill.

  • The machine has 4 different methods of monitoring your heart rate and other important metrics so that you are able to get the proper workout.

  • The speed and incline can be controlled by the handle bars, offering added convenience.

Cons

  • Some users have complained about the front bar being too far forward and making it difficult to hold while walking.

  • Adjusting the speed can become a complicated process when compared to other treadmills

Problems and Complaints

The main complains about the T516 are that the front bar is too far forward and that the speed adjustment can be complicated. BillyBullDog also makes a strange observation, stating in his review that the program makes a beep every minute. Like many runners, he prefers not to always keep track of the elapsed time, which is why he covers the display with a towel, but the "beep" keeps reminding him that another minute has passed by and "it just annoys me that I can't turn that off", he says. I believe this is a problem that can be solved with the appropriate computer settings.

What Makes the Nautilus T516 Different?

The numerous preprogrammed workout programs and low impact design are really what set this treadmill apart. If you have any joint pain or steer clear of treadmills because of tendonitis or muscle pain in your feet, legs and ankles, this treadmill might allow you to take up walking or running again.

The T516 can accommodate your stride at full sprint even if your height is 6ft.

How Does the Nautilus T516 Rate Overall?

The T516 has received 4 out of 5 stars on Amazon. Controls on the handlebars and a low impact design seem to be the major selling points for this model, which made me actually look at it as more than “just another treadmill”.
