How Jeff's Dog Helped Him Lose 20 Pounds

Health-related motivation can come from a variety of places. Friends, doctors, books and the web can offer varying levels of accountability, but they might not always work for everyone. Sometimes people find alternative ways to keep themselves working out and in shape. For my friend Jeff, it came in the form of man’s best friend. When he adopted a dog who had lots of energy, he quickly found it useful for getting him off the couch and hitting the pavement.

We all have “those friends;” the ones who are super passionate about one very specific thing in their life and almost everything seems to revolve around that one thing. For Jeff, that thing is dogs. He can tell you the difference between every type of retriever and will chastise you for referring to “Pit Bull” as a breed. He has the best BPA-free dog toys, purchases quality dog insurance and makes sure nothing less than natural dog food enters his pup’s digestive system.

How to Get Motivation to Lose Weight and Exercise

Apart from my love of helping people actually lose weight, I also have a soft spot in my heart for helping people get motivated to shed the pounds themselves. Today’s article is going to focus entirely on how to get motivated to lose weight and what you can do to help yourself lose those extra pounds when you think you can’t.

Staying motivated is the key to success when losing weight, not the actual workouts. If you can keep your eye on the prize long enough, you can get things done. Below I will share some of my favorite motivational advice to hopefully inspire a few more people to actually get out and lose the weight they want to.

The “Why”

Best Cardio Workouts to Burn Fat and Lose Weight - Pros and Cons

As you get started with your workout program, one thing that you will want to be thinking about is which form of cardio you want to be doing to improve the results that you see. Is there one ‘best’ type of cardio that’s going to maximize your fat loss and improve your fitness level, or at the end of the day is it really going to matter?

Let’s go over the main types of cardio options that you can choose from so that you can get a clearer idea of which is right for you.

The Treadmill

The first type of cardio that’s one of the most popular options is the treadmill. The great thing about the treadmill is that it doesn’t take a high amount of skill and coordination to use this and it can be adapted to almost any fitness level. Whether you want to go for a long jog, perform interval sprints, do a simple walk, or improve your leg strength with a brisk incline walk, the options are plentiful with this machine.

The treadmill does tend to be harder on the knees and back than some other methods of cardio though, so if you do have pre-existing pain, that is something that you may want to be thinking about. The treadmill is one of the top calorie burners, especially when you are going at much higher intensity levels.

How to Choose a Treadmill - Motorized Vs Manual - Pros and Cons

As Joey Adams, a popular American comedian points out, “If it weren't for the fact that the TV set and the refrigerator are so far apart, some of us wouldn't get any exercise at all”. Exercise is such an integral part of our daily activities. If only fitness had come in a packet, then its sales would have beaten every single business in the world.

Even though the importance of fitness is known and accepted by most of the people around the world, the trouble starts when it is practically practiced. There are a number of difficulties when undergoing exercise especially for the aged and weak people. On the other hand, there are lots of smart ways of doing the right exercise that calls for minimum strain and maximum results.

Buying the right treadmill is one such thing that requires smart thinking. Here, you have got two main choices to decide between.

  1. Choosing between a manual treadmill and motorized tread mill
  2. Choosing the right treadmill

How to Combat the Epidemic of Childhood Obesity?

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly 17% of the children and adolescents in the US are obese. Sedentary lifestyle and unhealthy eating habits explain the nearly threefold increase in childhood obesity rates now as compared to just one generation ago.

As video games, tablets, the internet and other means of technology continue to dominate daily activities, children tend to be less active. This contributes immensely to child obesity. However, by making certain lifestyle changes, obese kids can shed the unnecessary pounds. Here are some of the ways of vanquishing obesity in your child:

Overweight Beginner Running Tips - How To Start Running For Fat People

When it comes to starting a running program, overweight people face the biggest challenge. Running, for most people, is no easy task. Therefore, if you’re an overweight person and looking for tips to help you along the way, then you’ve come to the right place.

Below I’m going to share with you 3 helpful guidelines to help you get the most out for your running program without risking injury or a premature setback.

Beginner Running Tip 1: Walk First, Run Later

The most common mistake among beginner runners, overweight or not, is trying to do too much too soon at too quick of a pace. This is a deadly trap. Opting for this will only lead to injuries, health problems and eventually dropping the whole program. We all know where this leads to: disappointment and further frustration.

Therefore, walking is the better approach. All runners have one thing in common: a beginning. And most began by walking first. Runners are not born, they are made. Hence, start your training program by going for four or five 25-30 minutes walks around the neighborhood or park and see your fitness level improve bit by bit.

Simple And Effective Ways to Stay Feeling Young

If you want to stay young, there is a multitude of different ways to achieve it. Some people (including me) believe that if you are "young at heart" then you tend to stay younger longer. Age is just a number; people tend to seem younger when they say this and continue to think of themselves as younger than they really are.

Staying healthy is another huge step toward remaining wrinkle-free. Eating well, getting enough sleep, and exercise are just the beginning. All are important, not only for your complexion to remain pure, but also to prevent strokes and heart disease.

Special creams have an important role in helping you look young. By applying specially selected creams, and taking good care of your skin (starting when you still look young), you can keep a great complexion for longer. Then, if you are desperate to look younger when your face is finally sagging, and you have already tried botox, you could spend the money for a facelift.

10 Reasons Why You Are Not Losing Weight

If you are among the 93 million Americans who are obese, its time you take an action. After failed attempts to take off the weight, you may have already written yourself off as a case beyond redemption, destined to a fate of living life as an overweight person.

If your weight loss strategies are just not working, there is probably something you’re not doing right. Its time you stop finding excuses for carrying so much extra weight on your body and sincerely try to find out why you can’t lose weight.

Why are you not losing weight?

Shaquita, or “Q” as she likes to be called, helps you get started by listing the most probable 10 reasons you are not losing weight.

Hear out the charming, lovely, young woman whose goal was to go down from a weight of 250 lbs to that of a plus-size model. She wants to be a healthy weight and be beautiful enough being a plus size. Testicular Cancer Info: Symptoms, Risk Factors, Myths & Facts

A common stereotype of manhood is the resistance to professional assistance. This includes stopping to ask for directions. Hiring someone to fix the kitchen sink. And most dangerous of all, the "no need" attitude towards visits to the doctor.

This is why the BTB Foundation has partnered with the Testicular Cancer Society to help spread awareness about the risks and symptoms of testicular cancer. Even with one of the highest survival rates among cancerous diseases, an astonishing 390 men die annually from this illness. One of the biggest contributors to this statistic is the lack of education.

When men know the risks and get to their doctor when symptoms surface, there is a 96% survival rate. For all those men who have been taken by this disease, share the following information about testicular cancer with every man you know. It's time to save a life.

Who Gets It

Testicular cancer develops mostly in men in the 15-35 age bracket.

David Finklang, 27, was diagnosed with testicular cancer in September 2010. He experienced persistent chest pain which lead him to visit the doctor. Ten days later the exams showed that he had cancer. Listen to his story:
