GPS plus Garmin equals a gadget for your car to give directions, right? Not necessarily. The Forerunner 405 Heart Rate Monitor w/GPS Sport Watch is definitely made by Garmin. But, the 405 is actually an innovative GPS heart rate monitor sport watch featuring all kinds of functions for runners. Whether the user is running to stay in shape or running to get into shape, this Garmin watch offers assistance.

Features of the Forerunner 405 Sport Watch

  • Wireless heart rate monitor
  • Transfers workout data to computer
  • Monitors time, distance, calories and pace
  • Bezel allows easy adjustments
  • Charging clip
  • USB ANT stick
  • AC adapter
  • GPS charts course and workout

The handy GPS feature gives details on trails so runners know about current conditions and possible obstacles. Besides offering a wealth of information to help runners keep track of their burn, all of the data uploads into a computer with the user-friendly USB ANT stick. The user can review stats to know how far, how fast and what pace is needed to burn the desired number of calories. All of these features come with the trustworthy Garmin guarantee. Of course, it’s necessary to document food intake for the day, but people serious about dieting and fitness should keep a daily log of what they eat anyway.

So, I will admit that I am not a runner—yet. Double digit pounds need to go away before I can put my rate of speed into a category defined as running. When that happens, this type of device would be a great incentive to stay on track and meet fitness goals. I’ve attempted to join Andy and Tammy, my daughter and daughter-in-law, when they go for a run; but my fastest walk/jog lasts a couple blocks, then turns into a slower walk, then I turn around and turtle pace myself home. Those two just sprint ahead of me and never look back. It’s amazing to think they run a mile in about the same time I mope back home after 4-5 blocks. Someday when I grow up I will keep pace with them (they may need to slow down just a smidge). That day will happen about a year from now when I reach my target weight and my goal of getting healthier.

Andy and Tammy both have Garmin GPS systems for their vehicles, so now they are very interested in checking out the Garmin Forerunner 405 – Heart rate monitor and GPS sport watch. As they are both a bit geographically challenged, it would serve a higher purpose than tracking fitness. They could run the few miles to an area lake and back IF they had this watch to show them how to get back home. The bread crumbs only work in fairy tales. This innovative watch would keep them from running aimlessly in the countryside until one of them finally admits they’re lost. Then the cell phone comes out, the phone rings, and the search begins. Ah, yes, I can see how this Garmin watch would help me out—not as a runner yet, but runners do have mothers.

I have two of them!

I have two heart rate monitor watches. My friend gave me this Garmin forerunner 405 and another one gave me a Polar F6 heart rate monitor watch. I used them alternately but I like Garmin better!
